Back Alley Burrito Brings
Mexican Food to Strathroy

Serving Up Fresh Food and Fun Times

Tucked into a historic storefront in downtown Strathroy, Back Alley Burrito is a one-of-a-kind take-out restaurant that draws people in with tasty food, funky records, and a fun atmosphere.   John Artuso and Jill Zavitz opened Back Alley Burrito at 23 Front Street in September 2016. Offering a simple menu with lots of fresh and affordable options, it wasn't long until staff served their 10,000th customer – it only took three months! Born in Sault Ste. Marie, John was the youngest of five children in a home where food was always the focus. Gathering people around the dinner table to share conversations with family and friends was what John was made to do, and he had dreamed of running his own place since he was young. After managing several restaurants and food programs from London to Toronto, John moved to Strathroy to settle down with local gal Jill, who was already working in the community.

Now through Back Alley Burrito, John and Jill offer a fun place for people to meet up and grab burritos, tacos, quesadillas, and nachos. While they're there, customers are encouraged to set up their f avourite record to play before they hop in line, or leave a funny message or drawing on the Post-It note wall.   The restaurant also offers a meaningful “Pay It Forward Taco Note” program. Customers can purchase an extra taco with their order, which is then recorded as a coupon on a Post-It note. The taco note can be claimed by anyone that can use an extra smile or a full belly.  Adding to this feeling of community, the restaurant provides hot lunch programs at three local schools. Whether its “Taco Tuesday” or “Hot Lunch Friday”, the staff is happy to help.

Back Alley Burrito celebrates its one-year anniversary on September 19, 2017. Grateful to Strathroy for supporting their dream, John and Jill also hit the jackpot with their amazing team. Each and every staff member dedicates their time and energy to the success of the restaurant, and is instrumental in its success.
